In 1996 Derek Murphy, a Naturopathic Medical Student, marveled at how effective the Bowen Technique was when it resolved his wife’s back pain from a serious motor vehicle accident in only one treatment. Enthusiastically, he began training with Bowtech® later that year and has continued to advance his training since.
Graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1998, Derek opened his office, Five Elements Naturopathic Centre Inc. in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Practicing as a Naturopathic Doctor and Certified Bowen Practitioner, he passionately continues the work started by Mr. Bowen.
In 2001, Derek Murphy, N.D. was given permission by the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia for training to become a Bowtech® Instructor. Given permission, he was trained and prepared for the Bowtech’s Teacher Candidacy Assessment.
Granted approval as an accredited Bowtech® Instructor in October 2002, Derek has opened The Bowen Institute. This is an organization committed to teaching the original Bowen Technique – that documented by the Rentschs and approved by Mr. Bowen himself. His intention is to spread this incredible therapy in Canada and make it accessible to both professional and lay practitioners alike.
